Born in California and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Dr. Fortuna received an invitation to the O.R. while taking a History of Medicine course in college. "I was completely enthralled, the experience just blew me away."

He entered medical school knowing that his future was in the operating room. Long grueling years of residencies followed in general surgery, thoracic surgery and finally, congenital heart surgery.

Dr. Fortuna is skilled in the management of both pediatric and adult cardiac surgical cases. "Outside the operating room, I really enjoy getting to know my patients and interacting with their families. As a father myself, I have a sense of what stress and concerns they're going through; it's easier to be empathetic."

Dr. Fortuna has done missionary work in Japan and has been actively involved in Boy Scouts of America. He and his wife have seven children, five boys and two girls, so "leisure time is limited. We try to do things that include the family, such as music, photography and camping."
