Born and raised in Peoria, Dr. Swain earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1993. He received advanced training in cardiothoracic surgery through a valvular fellowship at Lankenau Hospital in Pennsylvania, and went on to a two-year cardiothoracic fellowship at the University of Rochester in New York. He has also studied at the University of Australia College of Medicine, and completed a Da Vinci® Robotic Training Course in 2004.
Dr. Swain has attended several symposiums on advanced laparoscopy and cardiothoracic technology, and was the recipient of the Laparoscopic Surgery Award given by the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons in 2004.
In his spare time, Dr. Swain enjoys running, water skiing and spending time with his family.
